A DIY Fairytale Dream Cardmaking Kit

Hello! It is Lisa Lahiff here from the DCWV Social Media Design Team, and I have one Fairytale of a project to share with you today. When I was looking through my new stacks I came across the Fairytale Dreams Stack (available at JoAnns Stores) and I was inspired immediately! Not only is the stack full of beautiful patterns and sweet glitter designs, but it has a wonderful source of inspiration on it's front cover. You can always find these types of photos on the front covers of each stack, giving you new ideas and ways that the stack can be used. I was drawn to the pretty gift box, with what looked like a DIY card making kit on the inside. I decided to take this idea and make it my own. My daughter loves everything there is about fairytales and princesses, plus she loves to craft with me so I thought this would be the perfect gift for her!

Since I was making it for a child, I decided to switch the box to gift bags, that eventually were turned into purses.  Because, let's face it every Princess needs a purse to carry with her.  Both purses were made out of card stock found in the Stack and with the help of my Cricut® Explore Air2.  Tip: When cutting this type of cardstock I set my machine right in between the poster board and bonded fabric cut setting to ensure a clean cut, especially on the glitter card stock sheets.  

The card kit was the next thing to come together.  I started by selecting my card stock and the pieces I would use to create embellishments.

And these are the pieces that ended up being included in the kit.

Isn't it amazing how much I was able to get out of this stack?  And I still have half the stack left to use!  LOVE it!  And here is a peek at all of these things put together and being used by my own little princess...

And I would have to say that this DIY Card kit was a success!

DIY Rossets by DCWV... I'm In LOVE!!!

Ok, I just have to gush for a minute that I LOVE DCWV (like you may not have already know that, right?), and their attention to what their customer wants is always spot on!  Just like these new DIY stacks that are available at Michael's stores... they seriously have made it so easy by perforating the pieces you need to make the projects they show on the front covers!  Take a look at how easily these DIY Folded Fans went together...

Step 1: The paper comes pre-scored as show in the picture.  All I did was use a diecut along one side. I then did this same step for 5 different sheets. ( You can cut the papers down to make smaller paper fans as you'll see in my final picture, but I wanted to create large ones and this require 5 of the sheets in the stack)

Step 2: Next you will need to "fan" the paper by folding back and forth along the provided score lines, as shown in the photo below.  Do this for all 5 sheets.

Step 3: Using a hot glue gone you will glue all 5 sheets together forming a circle.

Step 4: Press the top part of your circle down and in.  I will warn you this is the tricky part (not hard just tricky), but once you get the hang of it the rest of them will go together smoothly.  You will need a circle to hot glue onto the back of your fan to keep it in place and for durability.  I chose a circle die that was large enough to do both.

Step 5: You may choose to layer this fan with another smaller fan or with another circle on the front.  These will also require hot glue to stay together.

Ta-da!  Now you have yourself some beautiful fans for decorating your home and or for any party!  Try experimenting with mixing papers, various edge punches and layering with unique shapes.  The options are endless and this stack makes you feel accomplished with very little work!  Show us what you are creating with your DCWV DIY Stacks!

Hi!  So my life is complete chaos right now as we are renovating the whole first floor of our house with flooring... yay! (sarcastic yay as it is a ton of work, but happy yay as it really does look pretty and was much needed)  Needless to say my blog is quiet because everything in my house is literally shoved in piles on top of eachother.  Here's a quick peek into my world...
